Reading Through the Book of Isaiah – Day 49

“Then your salvation will come like the dawn,
and your wounds will quickly heal.
Your godliness will lead you forward,
and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.
Then when you call, the Lord will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply. Isaiah 58:8-9

This past week the Vice-President was accused by one of the women on The View, she whom shall not be named, of having a mental illness. This accusation came because a third party from the White House was gossiping on reality TV about Mike Pence, stating that he claimed to hear from God.

I guess I have a mental illness also because I believe that I hear from God too. Just like this verse in Isaiah 58 says, God has let me know that He heard me and He is near. I usually find His wisdom for me in the Bible, through answered prayer, through words I need to hear coming out of the mouths of other people or in the message on Sunday mornings, and in the quiet of my devotion time. I also must confess to hearing an audible reply to my cries…once, for sure!

I have shared this previously, but it has had a profound and lasting impact on my life and I will never be the same because of these four words.

I was in my car, driving down the road and crying. I felt totally alone and cut off from my husband and children. I was actually saying, “I have no one, I am all alone!” Those words were spilling out of me over and over again.

I. Was. A. Mess!

And into that mess stepped God, and He gave me a message. He let me know that I was not alone. Those four words let me know that I was putting my hope in people, and they will let me down. I needed to put my hope in Him and hand over all of my life to Him!

It has been 9 years since that moment with God, and my life looks much different than it did back then. I have grown in my faith, I have learned so much about the character of God, and I have been intentional in my walk. I don’t always get it right and I mess up more times than I like, but I am much quicker about handing it over to God, than I used to be.

So here is my message to Mike Pence…it does not matter what anyone says about you or your faith in God. Let them spread their vitriol all over the place and don’t give it a second thought. God has removed the yoke of oppression from off of our shoulders. We don’t have to wear it anymore!!! And remember these words from Isaiah 58:11…

The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
    and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like an ever-flowing spring.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
