Lent-Day 1

Lent – Day 1

Read Matthew 26:1-5
Today during the reading of today’s assignment, I was not able to write down a prayer to go along with the scripture. I was searching for insight from the blog who put the reading assignments together for Lent and found very little that I could use. I was struggling and feeling like a fish out of water.

I decided to write out the verses and then get ready for my day. I needed some groceries, healthy groceries. Part of the next 40 days is going to include a healthier lifestyle for me. I want to get to the point where I don’t have to write that sentence ever again! I know the only way that will work is if my heart and mind are focused on God.
I almost sabotaged myself in the first 15 minutes in the grocery store. I walked by the bakery and there on a display table were the most decadent chocolate brownies I had ever seen. I wanted them and I had convinced myself that I could buy them and eat them. No harm, no foul! Right?

God placed someone in my path to remind me of what He wants for my life. He reminded me of what this next 40 days is all about. As I was circling the brownie table looking for the perfect batch, I almost ran smack into another lady. This other lady had ashes on her forehead, imagine me mentally smacking my hand to my forehead.

Jesus told His disciples in our verses today that after the Passover the Son of Man was going to be handed over to be crucified. He knew He was going to die and He knew why! For your sins and mine! Jesus knew every sin you and I would commit and He still died for us. I think that I need to remember what He went through to give me eternal life and I know that there is no brownie worth His sacrifice.

Thank You Jesus for saving my life!

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
