Woman of the Bible ~ Focus on the Walls of Jericho!

God did 100 times better than Hollywood, in the visual effects department, on this one!!!  He did not use dynamite or any other high tech pyrotechnics to bring down the walls around the city of Jericho.  Nope!!  This is all God had to do…

6 “Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. 2 And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. 3 You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. 4 Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.” 6 So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.” 7 And he said to the people, “Go forward. March around the city and let the armed men pass on before the ark of the Lord.” Joshua 6:1-7

The word “wall” has been bouncing around in my brain for the greater part of two days now and I was thinking that my reflection was supposed to look at those symbolic walls…I think that God wants our focus to be on the physical walls of Jericho.  I know that I have never truly considered the construction of those walls and  I think we should, in order to truly understand the miracle that occurred in Jericho.  Click on the link below and read about the construction of walls around Jericho.

(Just in case you did not click on the link…here is a diagram of how archeologists think the walls of Jericho looked, you might want to go back up and read that article).

“Humanly speaking, it was impossible for the Israelites to penetrate the impregnable bastion of Jericho.”

We are not speaking human when we consider the walls of Jericho, though, are we?  We are speaking about God and what He can do! Walls; whether physical or metaphorical, are all penetrable by God!  God can make the strongest walls fall!

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
