WOBS ~ Focus on Leah ~ Tuesday Reflection

f5dc2606acdd56b91ff20ab382d4b558

Tuesday’s reading in our book discusses marriage and how it looked back in biblical times and how marriage is defined in the Bible.  I decided to look for verses in the Bible that speak to marriage and how God defines it.

18 “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. 20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.

21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.

23 “At last!” the man exclaimed.

“This one is bone from my bone,
    and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”

24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

25 Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.”  Genesis 2:18-25

God defined marriage, as being between a man and a woman, from the very beginning of time, and He continued to define it for us, quite clearly.

Leviticus 18:22 – Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.

Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Ephesians 5:31 – For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

Ephesians 5:28 – So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

1 Corinthians 7:2 – But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Hebrews 13:4 – Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

God defines marriage…not the government, not the courts and not people…only God!  Check out the link below for an article written in March of 2013 about how far we are moving from God’s definition of marriage.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
