Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 68

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 68

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read John 1 – 3 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

What is the main point of this portion?

• What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

• What insight am I given about myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

• What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

4. Click the link below to gain some insight on the book of John…

A reflection on today’s reading…

7 John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. 28 You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ 29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else. 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

I am anxious to get into this book of the Bible too!  “The one who Jesus loved” writes with the same type of eloquence that we found from Paul in 2 Corinthians.  It is in this book that is found the most memorized scripture in the world.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

And there is so much more that is shared in this book of the Bible.  This book can also be used for praying the names of Jesus…it begins by telling us that Jesus is the WORD and the LIGHT…

In the beginning the Word already existed.
    The Word was with God,
    and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:1-5

Jesus as the SON OF GOD….

14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14

John the Baptist gives hints to Jesus as the MESSIAH, as the PROPHET, as LORD! (John 1:19-28)

John the Baptist speaks to the truth of Jesus as THE LAMB OF GOD (John 1:29), he also calls Jesus, THE CHOSEN ONE OF GOD, and gives evidence for this claim. (John 1:32-34).

Jesus as RABBI/TEACHER – John 1:38

Nathanael calls Jesus the KING OF ISRAEL – John 1:49

Jesus calls Himself The SON OF MAN – John 1:51

I believe that John 2:1-12 is speaking to Jesus as the BRIDEGROOM…and Jesus is called the BRIDEGROOM by John the Baptist in John 3:29.

I believe that our Praying the Names of Jesus study at the beginning of this year was very important with our daily walk on this earth.  I am going to encourage you to read through the first 3 Chapters of John, lifting up the names of Jesus as you read.

If you were not aware of the Praying the Names of Jesus study and would like the document that we used…let me know and I will email you the file.  You may private message me on the Many Strands page with your email address and I will be happy to forward it to you.

Again I just want to thank you for being on this journey with me, I ask that God will reveal Himself to you through all that we do and share.  It is for His honor and for His glory that we do what we do!!!

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
