Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 61

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 61

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

https://heisourstrongtower.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/many-strands-challenge-seeking-gods-wisdom-for-2014/

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read 2 John 1 – 3 John 1 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

  • What is the main point of this portion?
  • What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?
  • What insight am I given about myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?
  • What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

4. Gain some historical insight on 2 John and 3 John by reading the links below…

A reflection on today’s assignment…

We are going to take Sunday off this week also.  2 John and 3 John are not very long and I felt that they could be read together, thus giving us another free day.  Use it wisely and for the Lord!!!!

“I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward. 9 Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.

10 If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement. 11 Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work.” 3 John 1:7-11

There is a contrast in these two books of the Bible and they can be summed up pretty easily.  The second epistle of John is admonishing following false teachers and preachers.  John goes so far as to say that we should not invite these people into our homes or give them any encouragement, doing so opens us up to being accessories to the crime of false teaching.

The third epistle of John says that we are to support those teachers who are sharing God’s truth correctly.  There is only one truth in this world and it can only be found in God’s word.  Being in the word makes sure that we are not of the world.  This place is not our home, we are only passing through.  We are the children of God and we know how to follow after what is good.

11 “Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.” 3 John 1:11

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
