Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading. You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.
1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;
If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.
2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.
3. Read Luke 22- 24 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…
What is the main point of this portion?
What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?
What insight am I given about myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?
What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?
A reflection on today’s reading…
38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.” Luke 24:38-40
They had watched Jesus for three years. He was their Teacher and they were His students. They woke each morning to see His smiling face and they went to sleep each night after they had spent time praying with Him. Jesus had revealed more, about who He was and what He was on the earth to do, to them than to anyone.
And despite all the wisdom and truth that Jesus had made known to them and all the time they had spent with Him…they still doubted!
Jesus had to reveal Himself to them all over again! He invited them to look at His hands and to look at His feet…they even got to touch Him.
41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched. Luke 24:41-43
I can understand that they were experiencing mixed feelings…the truth was slowly dawning on them that the impossible had happened. Standing in front of them was the risen Messiah and it would take a few minutes to process all that they were seeing and feeling. Jesus then did something so very simple and natural…He ate and they watched.
44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.
49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” Luke 24:44-49
Jesus then did something else that came natural to Him…He became their teacher one more time.
50 “Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. 52 So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. 53 And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.” Luke 24:50-53
And now we should follow the example of the disciples and do what comes natural…worship Jesus, be constantly filled with great joy and spend our time, praising God!!!!
