Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 53

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 53

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Luke 9 – 12 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

What is the main point of this portion?

What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

What insight am I given about myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

A reflection on today’s reading…

12 Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. 14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

This morning I shared a status on facebook and it looked exactly like this…

“I have a question…I have read many times over the last several years that when I forgive someone it’s for me and so I can move on and continue to receive forgiveness from God. Isn’t this motivation coming from a selfish mindset? Shouldn’t true forgiveness come from a heart like Jesus…forgiving them because that is the example He gave us. When Jesus died for our sins He knew there was nothing we could give Him in return.

I am just trying to work this out in my own mind, I am feeling that if I forgive while looking for something from God in return…maybe that is not true forgiveness. Maybe I should forgive simply because God has told me to…”

In the verses I shared above I believe that God has shown me the way.  Whether I am forgiving others or giving to others, it is to be done from a heart that is not looking for anything from God or anybody else.

I was also reminded of 1 Corinthians 13 today through a post from another page, which moved me to share this thought.

Love keeps no record of being wronged…this goes a long way to answering my earlier question..
“Thank You, Father, for giving us a perfect picture of what love looks like in the example of Your Son; and thank you for giving us this beautiful description of love in Your Word: ‘Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance’ 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT).” ~Trena Reed
All of this is just further proof for me…the Bible has all my answers, I just need to open it and start reading!!!

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
