Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 51

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 51

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

https://heisourstrongtower.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/many-strands-challenge-seeking-gods-wisdom-for-2014/

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Luke 5 – 8 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

What is the main point of this portion?

What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

What insight am I given about myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

A reflection on today’s reading…

38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38

This verse is the one that stands out for me from today’s reading.  Many pastor’s use this verse as proof for their prosperity message, but is that really the point of Jesus’ message to the multitudes???.  In order to keep verse 38 in its proper context we need to go back and begin reading at verse 20.

The Beatitudes

20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

“Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,     For the Son of Man’s sake. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!  For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 “But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation.  25 Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep.  26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Love Your Enemies

27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

Do Not Judge

37 “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:20-38

I want to break this down for you just a little bit more.  Really examine these verses for yourself and let the truth of the words from Jesus really penetrate your soul.  And then answer these questions for yourself…Was Jesus preaching a prosperity message to the multitude???  What was the main point Jesus was making in the Sermon on the Mount??

Blessed are you poor…

Blessed are you who hunger now…

Blessed are you who weep now…

Blessed are you when men hate you and exclude you and revile you and cast out your name as evil…

Rejoice in that day and leap for joy because great is your reward in heaven!!!

WOE to you who are rich…

WOE to you who are full…

WOE to you who laugh now…

WOE to you when all men speak well of you…

Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

I am praying that some of you will share your thoughts with me on today’s reading assignment.  I know that some of you are still reading along with me and I thank God for you and for the accountability that you are providing me.  We are more than half way to the end of this challenge…what has God been showing you through these daily readings???  Do any of you have your one-word resolution for 2014???  Looking forward to hearing from you today….

They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
