Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 44

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 44

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s

2.Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Colossians 1 – 2 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

  • What is the main point of this portion?
  • What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?
  • What insight am I given into myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?
  • What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

4. Gain some insight on the book of Colossians by clicking on the link provided and reading about what was going on at the time Paul wrote this letter.

A reflection on today’s reading…

6 “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

As I read these two chapters today, I was reminded of how I grew up in the church, but did not grow in God.  I was taught the basics, but my roots were not saturated in the living water that comes from Jesus, there was just enough water to keep my roots from dying.

I am thanking God for parents who took me to church and who made me go to church.  As my pastor likes to say, “I had a drug problem growing up…my parents’ drug me to church.”   Being “drug” to church was not my problem…my problem was I didn’t wear my faith or walk with Christ in my day-to-day life.

If we want to have deep roots in Christ, then we have to do the things that cultivate those roots.  One of the most important things we can do is to have a daily quiet time with God.  Spend time in His word, meditate on what we have read, pray and then just sit quietly in His presence.  We have to be with God for God to be in us!!

And if we want our children, grandchildren and future generations to have deep roots in Christ, then we have to sow the seeds that will foster those roots.  We have to set the example for them to follow…we have to lead the way.

I know for me personally, I want my children and grandchildren to nurture a strong relationship with Christ that is profound and real, and that they figure it all out much sooner than I did.  I want my life to point them all to Christ.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
