Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 40

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 40
Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading. You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Acts 13 – 16 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

• What is the main point of this portion?

• What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

• What insight am I given into myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

• What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

A reflection on today’s reading…

“16 One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a demon-possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her masters. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved.”

18 This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And instantly it left her.” Acts 16:16-18

Fortune tellers, horoscopes, mediums, physics…they are not from God. We do not follow the stars for our destiny; we follow the Creator of those stars for the best in our lives.

I used to read my horoscope daily and when I read that I was going to have a good day, I walked out the door with confidence, and when the prediction for my day did not materialize as expected…I was thrown for a loop. Then there were those days that my horoscope was not optimistic, I walked out the door worried about what I could do to change the outcome. (Side note…during this time I professed to be a Christian. I am just here to tell you, friends, Christians do not follow the ways of the world.)

The verses referenced above state clearly that a fortune-teller is demon possessed. One of the Ten Commandments is “You must not have any other god but me.” (Exodus 20:3)

The Bible tells us over and over again how wrong we are to seek our answers from anyone or anything, but God!

19 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? Isaiah 8:19-20

9 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. 13 But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.” Deuteronomy 18:9-14

As I was writing this I was going to quote 1 Corinthians 13:11 ~ “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.” But a thought popped into my head that these things are not childish, these things are much more dangerous than childish. This is following false teaching, this is following the devil. Christians do not follow the devil or place their faith in anything that comes from him.

Our hope is found in the Bible; God’s word! We place our faith in God through reading and understanding His word. We don’t look to what someone prints in the newspapers about our day. We leave everything about our day in the hands of God.

This has been a rough week in the Muzik household and I can say with great truth and joy that we are all still standing!!! We have made it through, for one reason only…God!! I will admit that there were moments when I was thrown for a loop, but God was with me and pulled on those reins. He redirected my thinking and gave me hope.

The stars can’t do that…they will only pull you deeper into the abyss. If you are a God following, Jesus lover…stay away from the dark side, there is no hope found there. Trust in God!!!

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
