Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 37

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 37

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading. You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

https://heisourstrongtower.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/many-strands-challenge-seeking-gods-wisdom-for-2014/

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Acts 1 – 4 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

• What is the main point of this portion?

• What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

• What insight am I given into myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

• What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

4. Do some research on the history behind the book of Acts…

A Reflection on Today’s Assignment…

“1 In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit. 3 During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

The Ascension of Jesus

6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”

7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:1-8

This has not been an easy beginning to a new week. Stress was becoming my companion over the last two days. As a matter of fact my stress level was so high that I felt like I was becoming sick. This is not how God intended me to live.

While I know that the message found in Acts 1:7 was not for me, it has an example that I need to follow. The Father alone has the authority to set the dates and times for all things to happen on this earth…if the Son does not have this authority, and the apostles do not have this authority, there is no way that I have the authority.

I have to remember that the One who is the Author of my life…is also the Author of the lives of my loved ones. It does not matter if I married them or gave birth to them…I am basically powerless when it comes to what God is going to orchestrate in all of our lives. I have no power, other than what He gifts to me. “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for me to know”

And to prove His authority in my life, God brought a story from the Old Testament to prove a New Testament and present day point. This really pulled it all together and tied it with a big beautiful bow.

Nebuchadnezzar and I could both use a restful night’s sleep.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
