Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 32

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 32

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading. You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

https://heisourstrongtower.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/many-strands-challenge-seeking-gods-wisdom-for-2014/

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read Romans 4 – 5 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

• What is the main point of this portion?

• What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?

• What insight am I given into myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?

• What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?
A reflection on today’s reading…

I know that I have shared with you before what my one-word resolutions were for 2012 and for 2013, but just in case you forgot I will refresh your memory.

2012 – Truth

2013 – Perspective

2014 – ?

When I began this 90-Day Challenge I truly believed that my word had already been made known to me…as we embark on the 32nd day, I am not longer as sure. As a matter of fact, my thoughts are leading me to a different word; one I have never considered before the last several weeks.

Authority is the word that is taking residence in my mind and it is also working down into my heart.
So what does authority mean? It’s defined four different ways in the New Testament.

“First, authority is the freedom to decide or a right to act without hindrance. All such authority begins with God, for there is no authority except from God.

Second, the concept of authority refers to the power, ability, or capability to complete an action.

Third, the word “authority” is used with reference to delegated authority in the form of a warrant, license, or authorization to perform.

Fourth, by a natural extension of meaning, authority sometimes denotes the sphere in which authority is exercised. God has established spheres of authority in the world, such as civil government.” (Taken from the Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology)

Reading the New Testament is helping me to understand God’s authority over my life, in all four areas. Placing God in His true position of authority over all, will also help me with the other one-word resolutions that have been on my heart and in my mind. When I allow Him to establish His authority in me and over me…my life is going to be easier. This does not mean that I will not have problems or trouble – it means that I will look to the One who holds authority over my life to see me through.

19 “Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.

20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. 22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:19-23
