Many Strands Challenge ~ Seeking God’s Wisdom for 2014 ~ Day 19

Seeking God's Wisdom - Day 19

Today’s Assignment ~ Make sure that you have your prayer journal with you as you complete each day’s reading.  You are going to want to keep track of the verses that are resonating with you, as you read.

1. If you have not already done so, answer the questions in this blog-post;

https://heisourstrongtower.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/many-strands-challenge-seeking-gods-wisdom-for-2014

If you have answered them…review your answers prior to reading today’s assignment.

2. Say a prayer asking God to reveal Himself to you through His word.

3. Read 1 Corinthians 13 – 16 and as you read, highlight verses that are speaking to your heart and reflect on these questions…

  • What is the main point of this portion?
  • What does God – Father, Son or Holy Spirit – reveal of himself?
  • What insight am I given into myself and into my life situation? Is there an example of a warning to heed? A promise to claim?
  • What does Christ require of me now, in thought, word or action?

A reflection on today’s reading…

I believe that the most beautiful poetry, that we can ever read, is found in the Bible and some of the most exquisite prose is found in 1 Corinthians 13.  I am sincerely moved by these verses every single time that I read them.

13 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Not only are these words pure perfection in their beauty they are also full of wisdom and provide clear direction to all of us on how we are to love people in this world.  We are told what love is and what it is not.

4 “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

1 Corinthians 13 4-7

I believe that this is the definition of unconditional love!  I want to love like this…don’t you?  It is not easy, but I think if we work harder at filtering our “feelings” through the spirit, it might just get easier to truly love everyone.

You know maybe we need to write it out, make this advice even clearer.

Love is…

Patient

Kind

Rejoicing for the truth

Hopeful

Enduring

Faithful

Love is not…

Jealous

Boastful

Proud

Rude

Demanding

Irritable

A list of wrongs

For injustice

Faithless

Hopeless

Here today and gone tomorrow

Why don’t we spend some time this weekend adding to this list of what love is and what it is not.  Share your additions to this list and really think about how you can live your life in love with the people around you.

My weekend is going to be very busy.  I have a women’s event at church tonight and then I will have my grandchildren for the majority of the weekend.  I am going to do my best to get Sunday’s post ready tomorrow, but if that does not happen…I vow to have it posted sometime during the day on Sunday.  Have a great weekend.  Thanks for sharing this journey with me!!!

  1. Love is warm, a smile, a hug it is not mean nor hurtful these to are some of the things I try to live by. When by children were growing up I would always try to start the day with a hug and a kiss saying I love you as they were doing out the door to show love I wanted them to know how to have love and to give love. So by starting and ending everyday with love we could all be in a better place this is my prayer for all the ladies and their family. Patti enjoy your weekend with your grandchildren and to all the ladies have a good one in Jesus name Amen.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
