Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:11-12
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9
In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over by observing your pure and reverent lives. 1 Peter 3:1-2
I had my radio on in the car yesterday as I drove to meet a friend for lunch. I was listening to Joy FM 99.1 during their “brown-bag lunch” segment and a newly married young woman called in to request a song for her husband on their one-year anniversary. The DJ congratulated her and then said, “The first year can really be difficult, if you don’t mind sharing, what was the single most difficult hurdle you had to overcome this first year?”
“We really did not have anything difficult to overcome this year. We are both strong Christ followers.”
Her words have been haunting me ever since I heard them spoken. I just can’t forget them or the first thought that popped into my mind when she said them, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Then I got up this morning and read today’s devotion about “The Good Wife.” These two marriages are opposite poles on the same spectrum. Both of these women are living their lives as a Proverbs 31 women, the young lady from the radio is walking hand in hand with her husband and they have placed God into the center. The women in today’s story walked hand in hand with God throughout her marriage, praying for her husband’s salvation for 30 years and she was blessed by God to see her husband come to know and love the Lord…one week before his death.
These are the Good Wives! I want to live like that…this is my prayer today.
Footnote: This has been an all day post. My original thought process was not in this direction. I just want to thank God for making me stop and think and really meditate on what He wanted me to understand about “The Good Wife.”
