True Freedom

Read Mark 5:1-20

Mark 5:1-20 (New Living Translation)

The sermon that I heard tonight was based on these verses in the Bible.  The Pastor started the sermon by sharing these words with the congregation…

“It is possible to look free, but not really be free at all.”

You may be sitting at your computer reading the above sentence and thinking that those words don’t have much of a punch until you consider the demon-possessed man in Mark 5.

This man was so strong that shackles and chains could not hold him.  He looked like he was free, until you met him in the burial caves and watched him howling and cutting himself on the stones, that’s when the reality of his situation became obvious.  This man was bound by something stronger than chains and shackles, he was bound by the demons in own head.

He was tormented and he was in need of someone who could heal him and make him whole.  Jesus came along and offered true freedom to the demon possessed man.

Jesus has offered the same thing to you and to me.

Jesus came to set us free.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Let’s break this verse down and really meditate on what Paul is saying in Galatians 5:1.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free…Our freedom is already available because Paul says “that Christ HAS set us free.” Freedom has already been provided to us…we just have to accept His gift and then…

Stand firm…don’t let yourself be burdened by chains that others put around your neck.

Stand firmdon’t let others tell you that you still need to live as a slave to your sin.

Stand firmremove the yoke from around your neck and surrender to the truth that Christ has set you free!

People who do not know Jesus have not understood the word and they will continue to live enslaved.  You have read the word and you have heard the word…you know that you have FREEDOM through Jesus!

Remember, God is not intimidated by any sin you might be carrying around…release it to Jesus and find true freedom.

Jesus came to set the prisoners free.

His grace has saved you and His grace will sustain you!

Lord, How glorious it is to enjoy freedom from sin, thanks to the sacrifice of Your Son Jesus, on our behalf.  Our lives, once enslaved to sin, now enjoy the freedom from that which once held us captive to Satan’s bondage. We live in victory because You have set us free and we are now free indeed.  Thank You, Father, for delivering us from the domain of darkness and transferring us into the kingdom of Your Son in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins!  Thank You God that it is possible to look free and to be free in Jesus. In His Name I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
