Sabbatical – Day 8 – The Financial Pillar

I shared with you all yesterday that I was going to be reflecting on the four pillars of a strong foundation, over the next four days…faith, family, finances and friends.  My plan was to start with faith and make my way down to friends…apparently, this was not God’s plan, since the topic of devotionals this morning seem to be centered on the third pillar…finances; in abundance or lack thereof.

30 Days of Prayer: God’s Amazing Promises

Day 10:
Abundant Blessings

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse… and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10

“God has promised abundant blessings for those who trust Him by giving their tithes and offerings. When you give God His Biblical share (at least one-tenth), He will give you far more than your share. Indeed, He will overwhelm you with His blessings.

Send a prayer request for God to bless you with prosperity.”

I just want you to imagine a fire alarm sounding right about now…if you know me at all, you know that I do not believe in the prosperity message.  I believe that when you bless others, God will indeed bless you; but this doesn’t, necessarily, mean His blessings come through a fortune being rained down on our heads!

Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate and I am grateful for His monetary blessings…but I do not believe that God promises His children that they will be wealthy or healthy or even trouble-free.  The Bible also tells us…

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

Matthew 6_20-21

I believe that God’s greatest blessings are going to come to us in heaven, not here on earth.  The earth is not my home and my treasure is not going to be found here…so many people are looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and they are never satisfied with what they have in their hand.  It is never enough, because they are believing in earthly rewards instead of heavenly rewards.

I think that a crack can come into our finance pillar when we start looking for the monetary blessing to come through the gift of our tithes and offering each week.  God will bless us for giving to Him generously…He will bless us with His love, His joy, His strength, His compassion, His help in difficult times, through His presence in our lives and in the lives of our family and friends…and His greatest blessings will come when we leave this earth and live for eternity with Him!

So instead of praying for prosperity…let’s instead…

“Send a prayer request for God to bless your life here on earth as He sees fit and for His greatest rewards to come to you in heaven.”
