Fit for My King – Day 1 Devotional Reflection

I am going to ask you to read Nehemiah 1, at some point today, because I believe it will help us over the next thirty days of fasting.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Nehemiah%201&version=NLT

Let me explain.  I typed up day 1’s devotion last night and posted it to the group.  My attention has been focused on that last sentence… “Treasure of Truth for Today”

Diet is NOT about Denial…it’s about Desire.

When I read this last night, in my humanness as a person who is denying myself, I really did not get it!!!  I kept looking at those words and thinking, “Diet = Denial!”  I was literally blocked on understanding this perspective.  Fast forward to this morning, after a little less than 8 hours of sleep, and God brought me a devotion that provided enlightenment and a godly perspective through Nehemiah 1 and Nehemiah’s prayer. Let’s specifically concentrate on Nehemiah 1:11a

“O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you.”  (NLT Version)

Nehemiah-1-11-the-bible-31754377-400-300

“O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those whose greatest desire is to honor you!”  (Patti’s Version)

Sheri is sharing with us that this is not about denying ourselves; it is about a desire to bring glory to God through the foods we put in our mouth.

I also just have to share with you all that I so appreciated the perspective that Sheri shared in this day 1 devotion about the fall of man and how it links to our current struggle.  It was not something that I had considered before, but it totally makes sense.

Would love to hear your thoughts about today’s devotion and let me know how I can specifically pray for you, as together we make God our first desire.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Nehemiah’s prayer. You are great and awesome and worthy to be praised! Help me to humble myself before You. May I focus on who You are, rather than on my own needs. Teach me to revere Your name.  Help me over the next thirty days to honor You through everything I say, everything I do and every morsel of food that I place in my mouth.  I ask these things in the holy and mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
