Moments with God
New Testament Bible Reading Plan
Day 41

Make me walk along the path of your commands,
for that is where my happiness is found.
Give me an eagerness for your laws
rather than a love for money!
Turn my eyes from worthless things,
and give me life through your word. Psalm 119:35-37

If I want to have LIFE, I need to be in His word. I need to walk along the straight path of His commands. My eyes cannot be found looking at worthless things of this world. I need to focus my eyes, my mind, my heart, my soul on God and make sure that all I am and all I do brings glory to Him!

Today’s Reading Assignment – Luke 22 & John 13

“But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God’s right hand.” Luke 22:69

Bible Reading Plan Day 41

Study Questions for Luke 22
Who agreed to betray Jesus?

Think for a moment about how this man who walked daily with Jesus and saw His ministry could fall away from closeness with God. Did he get greedy? Jealous? Lazy? Angry?

Are there ways Satan can work his way between you and closeness with God?

What is the history behind celebrating Passover? See Exodus 12:1‐13.

What is the connection between Passover, Jesus and our way to heaven?

What is this meal between Jesus and His 12 disciples traditionally called?

What does the bread symbolize? What does the wine symbolize?

Do you ever experience God’s amazing love and then turn right around and act immaturely (v24)?

What type of example did Jesus set for us in regard to pride (v26‐27)?

Does God ever let Satan “sift” us like He did Peter(also known as Simon)?

What does Jesus do for us during these times?

Have you ever had a time when you felt like you were being sifted and part of the result was you grew in a way that benefited you in the future?

Is this a way God prepares us for other(bigger/more important) things that He wants to do through us?

In the garden was Jesus trying to change what was coming?
Or was He seeking strength to make it through what was coming?

Did Jesus already know what was going to happen both with Judas(22:22) and His capture (18:31‐33)?

What was His reaction to the men who came to capture Him(v51)?

Even in a difficult situation like this, how did Jesus show His supernatural power(v51 and see John 18:6)?

Does v53 show that Jesus is aware of what is coming and has consented to submit to what is necessary?

Who is the first person that Peter(previously confident and bold) denied Christ to (v56)?

As Peter fulfilled Jesus’ prophecy of him(22:34) note how exact Jesus’ words were, even to the timing.

Describe a time when you have denied Christ, even if it was not as noticeable as Peter’s 3 denials.

Have you ever talked with God about that denial, in a time of brokenness (v62) and eventually repentance (John 21:15‐17)?

When questioned by Caiaphas and the elders who does Jesus boldly and unashamedly say He is (v70)?

“I am not saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this fulfills the Scripture that says, ‘The one who eats my food has turned against me.’ I tell you this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I Am the Messiah. I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.” John 13:18-20

Study Questions for John 13
What two things did Jesus know as he and his disciples sat down together to eat the Passover Feast? (1,3) What might an ordinary man have been thinking at such a time?

What was Jesus thinking about at this serious moment in his life? Think about the words, ‘he now showed them the full extent of his love.’ (R.S.V.–“he loved them to the end”; cf. Rev. 1:8; Heb. 13:8) What can we learn here about Jesus?

How did Satan attack them on this joyful and precious occasion? (2)

What did Jesus suddenly get up from the table and do? Who ordinarily did this? Why had none of the disciples done it? Why did Jesus do it? What did he want to teach them about true love?

What happened when Jesus reached Peter? How did Jesus emphasize the importance of his washing Peter’s feet? Why was it so important that Peter accept Jesus’ loving service? (8)

How did Peter respond? (9) What was Jesus teaching his disciples about love? About the joy of serving? How can we follow the example Jesus set?

Why did Jesus tell his disciples about the betrayer? (19-21) How did the disciples respond to this? What does this show about them?

Why was Jesus so troubled in spirit? How did he try to help Judas? What is the significance of sharing bread? What did it mean to give Judas the piece of bread? (Jn. 6:54,55) What is the purpose of Jesus’ love?

What did the way in which Judas went out signify? What happened to him? (cf. Mt. 27:1-10) What can we learn from this?

After Judas left, what did Jesus tell his disciples? (31-33) What unique weapon against Satan’s attack did he give them? (34) How can we prove ourselves as his disciples?

What did Jesus know about Peter that he didn’t even know about himself? How did he help him? How was Peter different from Judas? How could Jesus love his weak disciples to the end?

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
