Moments with God….Amusement Park Ride

Moments with God….
Have you stopped and had a moment with God today, just you and Him, alone together????

Today’s shared devotional contains my life verse and anytime I see this verse, anywhere, I always feel God is speaking directly to me. I don’t know if you have a life verse that resonates inside of you or not…but I know it has helped me to have these words inside of me to help me understand who God is in my life.

“[B]ut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

As long as my hope is in the Lord, He will renew my strength. I will be able to fly like the eagles…He will carry me through any circumstance and I will not give up…because my hope is in Him.

I am going to make a suggestion to you today…really, a couple of suggestions…

1. If you do not have a life verse, spend some time in prayer with God and ask Him if it is His will for you to move forward in 2013 with one verse that gives you a better connection with Him. It really does not have to be one verse…my life verses are Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Have you never heard?
Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
29 He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
30 Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

2. A couple of weeks back we played a guessing game on the Many Strands page called…”What in the World is Patti’s God Word for 2013?”, and Mary Lynn won a copy of “Jesus Today” for correctly guessing “perspective.” Have you been praying for a word from God for 2013? I am going to tell you that as soon as this word began running around inside of my head…my life started changing and I am seeing things from a different perspective; God’s perspective. I will share the link with you here to the post about my word from God for you to consider as you pray with God for direction in this area too.

3. As you move forward toward 2013, God might be impressing upon you one verse that He wants you to carry into the new year. It might not be a life verse….it might be one that He wants you to use specifically for the upcoming year. Now this doesn’t mean that when 2013 is over that you leave this verse behind and don’t use it anymore…it just means that you are going to be using this verse throughout the new year as you walk in circumstances that you might not have encountered previously in your life. It will be your go-to for 2013 to help you stay centered and connected with God.

We are going to be entering the last month of 2012, quickly…hard to believe, but it is true! Take one of these suggestions and pray specifically about it and see what direction God is taking you. He might bring all three of them to you or He might just want you to concentrate on one OR He might bring you something totally different from what we have considered here. What He will do though is, He will bring to your life just what you need, just when you need it and it will help you navigate this life that sometimes resembles an Amusement Park…sometimes fun, sometimes scary and sometimes just down right confusing.

An Amusement Park

[B]ut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

When my daughters were young we took a trip to a local amusement park once each year. The variety of rides attracted people of all ages. There were death-defying roller coasters, haunted houses, and whimsical teacups. Luckily, we had the option to choose which rides to go on and which to avoid. At the end of day, we headed home worn-out, but happy to have experienced such an awesome time.

At times, our own lives can look a lot like a theme park. However, sometimes we do not get to choose the ride we’re going on.

Although God loves us, He does not shelter us from life’s calamities.

Just one call, a job termination, a fierce storm, or a bad medical report can catapult us from a smooth sailing voyage to a haunting ride we never imagined. Within minutes our high spirits can turn into desperate pleads to escape the situation.

If you are currently experiencing a rough ride through life, trust that God is with you. Just because you are facing challenging difficulties does not mean that God has turned His back on you. During theses times, it is imperative that you hold tightly to your hope in the Lord (read Isaiah 40:31, again).

Your faith, trust, and hope in Him will enable you to rise above the bleak circumstances encompassing you. As you faithfully place your circumstances in the Lord’s hands, He will renew your strength, lift your spirit, and give you His peace.  Believe wholeheartedly and profess out loud that God is going to have you mounting a lovelier ride soon.

If God currently has you on a joyful expedition, do not look down on those that are facing hardships. Be sensitive, sincere and offer help. In Ecclesiastes 7:14 we read, “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.” You do not know what any given day may bring.
No matter what ride you are currently on, always hang tightly to your hope in the Lord. He will fill your heart and mind with His amazing love and peace, which will safely bring you through the unpredictable theme park of life.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being with me each day. I know You are with me in good times and in difficult times as well. Holy Spirit help me to be sensitive to others facing difficulties. Lord I seek to reach out to comfort those by the same comfort You have given me. In Jesus name, Amen.

Questions: Are you currently facing a difficult situation? Have you experienced various rides of life? Are you equipped and prepared to face life’s uncertainties?
