Life and Death – A New Perspective

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21)

I have always considered the meaning of this verse to be about choosing our words wisely and not using words that bring harm to others. I feel God gave me a new perspective about this verse today.

We can also bring harm to others when we remain silent about Jesus. We have opportunities everyday to share the salvation story with people around us. We need to take that guard off of our tongue and let people know that Jesus died for their sins, and through Him they can receive a new life that is eternal.

I see so many people doing good deeds and they are working so hard at being a good person…thinking that this will get them to heaven. As Christians we know it is not about us in any way, it is about Jesus and what He did!

I do not want to be responsible for the death of someone because I did not share my testimony with them. Let’s purpose together to be intentional with professing our faith to others. I am going to challenge you to share your testimony with one person this week and then let us know what happens.

We need to concern ourselves with the Shepherd’s lost sheep and not just our own problems and difficulties. He has given us a new life…and we need to pass it on! Let’s ask God to make us a blessing in someone’s life this week.  I want to LOVE people to LIFE!!

I love the song “Make Me a Blessing” by Ira B. Wilson and have made part of it a prayer, won’t you say it with me?

In the name of Jesus, I ask You, God, to…

Make me a blessing, Make me a blessing,
Out of my life may Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Saviour, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today! Amen

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
