Jesus Calling – August 23rd

Jesus Calling for Kids – August 23rd
Give Your Loved Ones to Me

It is important to love those around you. In fact, My second greatest command is to love your neighbors as you love yourself. But you must never forget My greatest command – to love Me with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Only I am God. And only I am worthy of worship.

Love your family, love your friends – but don’t worship them. Don’t let your love for them crowd out your love for Me. And don’t let a person become the center of your life.

Abraham had waited so long for a son. When Isaac finally came, Abraham was in danger of worshiping his son. I test Abraham, and – as hard as it was – Abraham trusted Me to take care of Isaac. And I did.

Trust Me to take care of your loved ones. They are safe with me. My Presence never leaves them – just as I never leave you.

Genesis 22:9-12 – When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”

“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”

Ephesians 3:20 – Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Exodus 33:14 – The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

Jesus Calling – August 23rd

ENTRUST YOUR LOVED ONES TO ME; release them into My protective care. They are much safer with Me than in your clinging hands. If you let a loved one become an idol in your heart, you endanger that one – as well as yourself. Remember the extreme measures I used with Abraham and Isaac. I took Isaac to the very point of death to free Abraham from son-worship. Both Abraham and Isaac suffered terribly because of the father’s undisciplined emotions. I detest idolatry, even in the form of parental love.

When you release loved ones to Me, you are free to cling to My hand. As you entrust others into My care, I am free to shower blessings on them. My Presence will go with them wherever they go, and I will give them rest. This same Presence stays with you, as you relax and place your trust in Me. Watch to see what I will do.

My Reflections:

This is one of the most difficult devotions that I had ever read. In 2010 when I first read it, it brought a truth into my life that I needed to see. But with that truth came much hurt and shame. I felt myself going back to that time and place when I read this tonight…it is never easy looking back, but sometimes I think we need to. If only, to see how far we have come.

Dear Lord,
You know that this is not the first time that I read this devotion and You are also aware of how much these words opened my eyes the first time I read them. I wrote this prayer to you in 2010 and I am going to share it again here with my friends. I looked at Sara and Keith exactly like Abraham looked at Isaac. I want to first thank You Lord for gifting to me with these two beautiful beings when they were babies. I always took credit for who they were and where they came from…it was never mine to take, both of them were made by You. The credit goes to You, God, not to me.

I need to do what You are asking of me, Lord. I need to let go and give them back to You; You need to be in control of all of us.

Again, thank You God for these two beautiful children that You gifted to me. I did not deserve them and I still don’t. It was only through Your grace that I was allowed to borrow them. I’m sorry that I forgot who they really belong to and I wish that I had remembered this sooner.

I rest on Your promises that it’s not too late and I know that now the responsibility is greater since we now have four grandchildren that you have also given to this family. I need Your help Lord. Help me to remember that you are the Father of all of us and that, as a parents and grandparents, we are their caregiver’s here on earth for YOUR children…all of them. I am letting go God and I am handing them over to You, to do what is best in their lives to bring them to You. I trust You with their lives and I know that You will do what needs to be done as the Parent who loves them best.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
