Jesus Calling – July 11th

WORSHIP ME ONLY.  Idolatry has always been the downfall of My people.  I make no secrets about being a jealous God.  Current idols are more subtle than ancient ones, because today’s false gods are often outside the field of religion.  People, possessions, status, and self-aggrandizement are some of the most popular deities today.  Beware of bowing down before these things.  False gods never satisfy; instead they stir up lust for more and more. 

When you seek Me instead of the world’s idols, you experience My Joy and Peace.  These intangibles slake the thirst of your soul, providing deep satisfaction.  The glitter of the world is tinny and temporal.  The Light O My Presence is brilliant and everlasting.  Walk in the Light with Me.  Thus you become a beacon through whom others are drawn to Me.

Exodus 20:4-5 – “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 

Samuel 22:29 – “For You are my lamp, O Lord; The Lord shall enlighten my darkness.

Worship Only Me 

Only I am God.  Only I deserve your worship.  Do not devote yourself, your time, or your attention to the things of this world.  Do not let them become idols, false gods. 

The worship of idols has always been a trap for My people.  The ancient Israelites bowed down to carved images and golden statues.  But today’s idols are harder to spot.  The can be other people, possessions, popularity, or success.  An idol can be anything that keeps you away from Me. 

Don’t bow down to the idols of this world.  They have no real power.  They can’t forgive your sins, love you unconditionally, or take you home to heaven.  Only I can do those things.  So worship only Me. And be ready to receive Joy and Peace in My Loving Presence.

My Reflections on Today’s devotion:

We need to be so careful and place a wall of protection around our children.  This generation and future generations are going to find it harder and harder not to fall into the trap of worshiping people, possessions, their own status and success.   We need to impress upon our children, our grandchildren…any child that we have any influence over…that who they are and what they have are all gifts from God.  Once they have written this on their heart, they will see all people for who they really are…children of the King of Kings.  They will then truly understand the opening line of the Declaration of Independence… “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
