Reflections on the Belt of Truth…

Have you ever worn a pair of pants that were slightly too big for you?  Did you find yourself constantly tugging at the waist band to pull them up?  I have a pair of jeans and they are my favorite pair…I got them for Christmas last year and I love them.  There is only one problem; I weigh less now than I did when I got them.  This does not keep me from wearing them though, I wear a belt to hold them up.  Without that belt, I am uncomfortable and constantly tugging and pulling them up.

In January of this year I received another gift, this one was from God.  He gave me a word to use to help me during 2012; the word is “truth.”  As I think about these two gifts and the five-day study we just did on our word for this week…it makes me smile.  Who…but God, could take a gift from December add a gift from January and bring it all together for a third gift to share with you all in July.

We have been studying about the “belt of truth” this week and how necessary it is for us to put on THAT belt every morning.  We found out that the belt of truth was the first piece of armor that Paul talked about in Ephesians 6…

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…” Ephesians 6:14.

Just as I explained earlier that I am uneasy when I try to wear my jeans without my belt…I am just as uneasy when I try to live in this world without first buckling the belt of truth around my waist.  We really do need to know what we are supposed to believe and why we believe it and the only way to fully understand His truth is to write it on our hearts and wear it daily.

If we are not wearing our belt of truth then we are going to be constantly pulled and tugged by the whims of the dark forces in this world.  But when we are properly suited up for our day and have placed the belt of truth around our waist then, and only then, are we sanctified by God, because His word is truth.

Lord, Satan is constantly trying to make us doubt Your love for us.  He wants to discourage us and keep us from making good choices in life. I pray that You will help us all to remember to put the Belt of Truth on every morning as we get dressed. Help us to remember that we are special to You and that we need to keep our eyes on the path You have laid out before us. Help us not to get discouraged or diverted off in the wrong direction. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
