The Trust Fall – Trusting God

Read the third devotion in the first week of our book…The Trust Fall

Today’s Truth:

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.  Psalm 56:3

Friend to Friend:

In a small group study like this one of the most important things that needs to happen, in the group, is for the members to be able to trust each other enough to share their stories.  This is my second time reading this book with an on-line group and these devotions will help us to deal with certain areas in our lives…areas where we have been hurt by others or areas where we have hurt others or areas where we have even hurt ourselves.

In order to lay those burdens down God will sometimes convict us to confess them to others.  This confession requires a level of trust in the people you are sharing with…some stories are messy and it is important that we know this room is a safe place to land. Several times during the last study I was convicted by God to open up and share some areas in my life that aren’t so pretty.  I let it all go and I fell into the arms of my girlfriends and they caught me…they did not let me fall.

This is a safe place to land.  You can bring your hurts, your burdens, your anger, your confusion, your story, your message, your testimony and your victory…you can bring it all to this room and this is where it will stay.  No one will judge you…we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  This is a safe place for you to land…we will not let you fall; we will catch you.  And once you are standing on your own two feet…we will lift you up in prayer to the One who has always been with you and loves you best.  It is only because of Him that this is a safe place for each of us to land.  You never know tomorrow might be the day that one of us attempts the “trust fall” of confession within this group…we all need to be ready to catch her as she falls.

Let’s Pray:

Dear Lord, You are good, loving and faithful – and You know exactly what each one of us is facing.  Please take the burdens from our hearts.  Help us today to fall into a deeper place of trusting You and of trusting each other.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Your Turn:

What did God show you about trusting as you read today’s devotional?
