Divine Appointments

“The Gospel does not fall from the clouds like rain, by accident, but is brought by the hands of men (and women) to where God has sent it.”  John Calvin

I want to share a story with you about divine appointments.  There was a pastor and his son who every Sunday after church would go around town delivering tracts to the residents in their town.  On this one particular Sunday the weather was very nasty and the pastor told his son that they were not going to go out.  The son asked his dad if he could go out on his own and deliver tracts, and his father agree.

So, off the boy went to deliver the tracts and spread the love of Jesus with his neighbors.  He had been working for quite some time and was down to his last tract…he looked up and down the street searching for someone to bless.  The streets were empty and the weather was getting worse, he had decided to turn for home when he noticed a house across the street.  He walked up to the door and rang the doorbell…he waited, no answer.  He rang it again…no answer…he rang it a 3rd time and still, no answer.  He started to turn to leave when he heard…”ring it one more time”.  The boy turned and did exactly that and in the manner of many young boys…he started ringing and knocking like he was trying to wake the dead.

All of a sudden the door flew open and an elderly lady looked out…”What do you want?” she asked him.  The boy handed her the tract and he said, “I wanted to give you this information about our church and to tell you that you are much-loved by Jesus.”  With that the young boy turned and went back home.

The next Sunday near the end of the church service the pastor asked if anyone in the congregation wanted to share their testimony.  Way at the back of the church an elderly hand was raised and up stood the very woman who the young boy had visited.  She told the congregation that she was only a week old Christian and it was her first time to attend church.  Her husband had died several years ago and she was all alone in the world.  She had no family or friends and that last Sunday she had decided life was not worth living.  So she took a chair and a rope upstairs to the attic; she tied one end of the rope to the rafters and the other end she placed around her neck.  She was just getting ready to step off the chair when her doorbell rang.  She decided to ignore it and then it rang again, she stood on the chair wondering who in the world was at her door and then it rang a third time.  She waited to see what would happen next and when it didn’t ring again right away…she moved to end it all,but before she could step off the chair…the insistent ringing and knocking started.  She said she decided something terrible was happening and someone needed her help so she removed the rope, and got off the chair to see what was going on.

“I want to thank the young boy who came to my home and told me that Jesus loved me.  He literally saved my life.”

This little boy received a divine appointment from God and he did not let any obstacle deter him from following the call on his life.  He went into battle…he was a warrior and he was instrumental in saving the life of the elderly woman because he did not give up AND he spoke some life-saving words to her.

Be a warrior for God!  When you feel the nudge from Him to speak into someone’s life…do it.  Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from fulfilling His purpose for you.  Be prepared to do things sometimes that make you uncomfortable and to do things that you never thought you could ever do.  If He sends you on a mission…He will equip you to get the job done.  Keep knocking at those doors, keep ringing those bells…soon or later the door will open and salvation will reveal itself.

Lord,

Where You lead me, I will follow.  Anywhere that You take me to…I will be a warrior for You and I will rely on the strength you supply to get the job done.  In Jesus name, Amen.

Oaks Of Righteousness

Isaiah 61:1-3 "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has annointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lords's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion -- to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display His glory.
