Hebrews 12:2“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
When I was a kid my friends and I would play a game called ‘Swinging Statue.’ The person that was ‘It,’ swung everyone around three or four times and then let go. The object of the game was to freeze, like a statue, exactly the way you landed. Balance, was the key here, if you moved, laughed, fell, then you had to be “it.” Your power of concentration and determination kicked in here. You would try so hard not to move. but sometimes you had no choice; some positions were just hard to hold especially after being spun around first.
Balance is the key to winning in the game of swinging statues and balance is also the key in our walk with the Lord. The secret to keeping our balance is to have a focal point, something constant to keep our focus on. Sometimes our circumstances can cause us to starting spinning out of control, when we feel that happening we need to grab onto that focal point…fix our eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will no longer spin, in the light of His glory and grace. (I took a little poetic license with the lyrics by Helen Lemmel, I hope she will forgive me.) Oh and one more thing I wish I had this knowledge when I was younger I might have won at swinging statues more often.
Holy Jesus, be my Light,
Shine upon my way;
Through this tempting, changing life
Lead me day by day. In Your name I pray, Amen
